Visitors tend to rush through this area in a hurry to get to the Kruger National park.
The area is heavily developed for agriculture and commercial forestry, but still very beautiful in most parts with excellent roads. Many lovely rivers rise in the mountains with a number of water falls. This is the safari capital of South Africa with loads of Private Game Reserves and Parks with the Kruger National Park adjacent. There are excellent game walks and the hiking is spectacular. One of the most popular climbing venues is at Waterval-Boven. There are two river trips and numerous mountain biking trails and horse trails. You can do hot air ballooning, paragliding or sky diving. There is an interesting inland dive site and water rafting. Excellent variety of action, great scenery, and game.
